Upcoming Projects
We are developing new projects and frameworks for sustainability in the High Himalayas. An overview of the projects are on this page. If you would like to know more about any of the projects, feel free to contact us.
Zero Waste Hub
This project envisions a one-stop solution for hard-to-recycle and reclaimable waste materials that are currently destined for landfill. The proposed hub will apply the zero-waste principles of reuse, repurpose, repair and recovery to deliver practical services that will create broader environmental, economic and social outcomes such as reducing landfilling, creating employment, and promoting environmental stewardship in the local community. The hub will also integrate activities for community development, such as workshops, research and outreach on zero waste.
Key Features:
-
Zero Waste Store: A space for buying second-hand, upcycled, and rescued goods to promote circular consumption
-
Repair Station & Tool Library: A community resource borrowing tools to repair and extend product life
-
E-Waste Drop-off: A dedicated station for responsibly disposing of e-waste for recycling
-
Rescued Food Feed: A program that rescues green waste and diverts them to feed stray animals
-
Office: A collaborative workspace for team projects, meetings, and environmental education initiatives
-
Compostable Toilet Block: An eco-friendly sanitation solution that conserves water and turns human waste into compost

Safe Septic Programme
There are thousands of private septic systems for onsite wastewater management in Ladakh. The objective of this project is to reduce the risk of faecal contaminants in groundwater and improve water quality in rivers and streams by proper maintenance of septic systems.
Key Features:

-
Develop best practices guidelines for septic systems design and maintenance
-
Monitor septic systems and respond to technical issues
-
Support property owners with annual check and maintenance of septic systems
-
Workshops about septic systems and their environmental impacts
Sustainable Tourism
Hotels have a significant environmental footprint due to high energy and water consumption as well as substantial solid waste and sewage generation. This project aims to help hotels transform into sustainable business by introducing a sustainability certification tailored for hotels in ecologically fragile regions like the Himalayas.
Using a comprehensive 5-point assessment framework, the project is about guiding businesses to establish a baseline of their current impact, set targets and implement practical strategies for reducing their impact.
This certification will not only help hotels reduce their environmental impact but also provide cost saving opportunities and enhance their reputation and appeal to conscious travelers.
